a filmmaking process
I make episodes of 2-15 minutes as chapters that will eventually inform a film
I dwell on my role as a mother and (grand)daughter and my aesthetic choices as a filmmaker and a choreographer

To place the camera in front of my body and see my family:
objectively through the lens is to see them with more distance
subjectively through the lens is to see them more intimately than my eyes ever could

I have started a project about the four generations of women in my family. Initially I just wanted to film my grandmother Ellen (now age 92) together with my daughter Lisa (now age 8). I found it moving and precious to see their relationship change and develop as Lisa grew. My grandmother lives a few hours drive away from our house so we don't get to see her that often but when we do I bring my camera. I started filming in April 2018 when Lisa was four years old and my grandmother in the early stages of dementia. We visit her 2-3 times a year and my mother often comes along and now my second daughter Molly (born in September 2019) also joins us. We are four generations of women.
